I read this article last week and haven't been able to get it out of my mind. I just don't know if parents that use physical punishment on their children in the name of God really get it. It weighs heavily on my heart. I wish I could scream it out to stop! I just don't know how to better get the word out. Simply, the Bible gives no clear direction to spank. It is not Biblically mandated. It isn't what discipline is all about. I am so sorry to those that think this is true and good. It is just so wrong and it hurts my heart that the truth isn't spoken enough. To top it off, the clear Biblical direction to make disciples isn't happening because of this. It is niave to think that it isn't a stumbling block.
I do not think that if you spank it is a salvation issue, but it is an obedience issue. There are things that we are supposed to do and things that aren't spoken of. So if it isn't spoken of, yet hinders what we are supposed to do, then I think the decision should be clear. I would hope everyone would agree that winning more souls for Christ trumps a discipline strategy.

The Importance of Feelings
Through my many adventures of parenting I have heard so many fellow mamas say, "I couldn't do that." Be it nursing, co-sleeping, adopting a special needs daughter, or marrying an Air Force Officer. To me, these are my blessings. I don't see why someone would say that they wouldn't want a blessing.
I was named "The Most Sensitive" in my graduating class. In some ways I am. I can be brought to my knees thinking about the horrid act of abortion or pedophilia. It will actually make me sick.
Then I think about so many things that have been hard to do, but I don't dwell on how I feel because I know that it is the right thing to do. I really would like to encourage people to do the right thing, specifically in what God wants them to do, and not dwell on how it makes you feel. Some the of the biggest blessings and joy come after a storm. That doesn't mean that you dodge the storm, you head into it and with the strength given by God you will make it through and see the rainbow on the other side. You will be blessed beyond what you can imagine.
One example of this is our decision to homeschool. I have not gone kicking and screaming like some do. If that's what you need to do to be obedient, so be it. But, for me it was easy. It was the obvious, righteous education choice for our family. I don't make these decisions based on what is convenient, what others think, or how it makes me feel. My obligation is to my husband and my family.
Often times what God wants you to do is difficult, but with obedience you will get blessing. With disobedience and sin you will get curse. So what one will make you feel better in the end?
It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. Lam 3:22-23
